Most free Excel budget templates you find online are dead: totals are typed in, progress percentages are copied and never updated. This one exports as a working spreadsheet. Change one Actual number and the section total, the summary, and the Progress column all move.
What's inside the file
- One sheet named after the month (e.g. July 2026).
- Title row, then a summary block: Income, Planned, Actual, Left to Budget.
- Income table with a live SUM total.
- One block per section: header row tinted with the category color, columns for Category · Planned · Actual · Progress, and a bold totals row with a top border.
- Column widths set, header row frozen, page setup fit-to-one-page-width for printing.
Why formulas matter
The point of a spreadsheet is that math survives editing. If a template hard-codes its totals, you can't move a row or fix a mistake without re-doing arithmetic by hand. Live formulas let you use the file as a working document for the whole month, not just as a printout.
Currency formatting
Pick USD, EUR, GBP, or SEK in the currency selector before you export. The chosen format is applied to every money cell in the file, so filtering, sorting, and math keep working — nothing is stored as text.

Common questions
›Do the exported cells contain real Excel formulas?
Yes. Section totals are =SUM() ranges, the summary block adds those totals up with formulas, and the Progress column is =IF(planned=0,"",actual/planned) formatted as percent. Edit any planned or actual cell in Excel and everything downstream updates.
›What currencies are supported?
USD, EUR, GBP, and SEK. Currency is applied as an Excel number format on money cells, not as text, so filtering and math still work.
›Will it open in Numbers, LibreOffice, or Google Sheets?
Yes. It's a standard .xlsx file. Formulas and number formats are supported in all four.
